As it is known, Apple removed the Epic Games Store from the App Store in 2020 for violating the rules by using its own payment methods in the application. This move sparked considerable discussion in the tech world and even led to legal action.
The court ruled in favor of Apple on many issues. However, the tech giant was forced to make significant changes due to the Digital Services Act of the European Union, which came into effect last year. As a result of these changes, it was announced that the Epic Games Store, as promised, would return to the App Store. Fortnite will also be available to iOS users through the store. Here are the details…
Epic Games Store and Fortnite Returning to iOS!
Epic Games announced its plans for 2024 today on its official website. In this announcement, the company stated that it will soon begin development of the Epic Games Store application for iOS in Europe. No specific date was given. It is stated that the Swedish firm of Epic Games will be responsible for this mobile store. This company consists of three studios and a total of 60 employees.
So, will it be possible to purchase a game through the iOS application of the Epic Games Store? Although there is no clear statement on this issue, it is highly likely that yes, games will be purchasable. Well, how will Fortnite be offered?
Another price wave occurred at the Epic Games Store. Prices of popular games such as RDR 2, FC 24, GTA 5, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have increased.
As it is known, Fortnite can currently be played via GeForce Now. For those who don’t know, GeForce Now is a subscription-based service offered by NVIDIA that allows you to play games by connecting to a powerful computer remotely.
In fact, GeForce Now was not available on the App Store due to Apple’s rules. With the adjustments the company had to make, this service will also be available to iOS and Android users soon. Thus, you will be able to play Fortnite via GeForce Now. Of course, you will need to pay a subscription fee to access it. In other words, the game will not be freely available on the App Store.
Apple made the regulations for countries within the European Union. Therefore, it seems that the mobile application of the Epic Games Store will not be accessible from Turkey. This also applies to Fortnite. If the scope of these regulations is expanded, the situation may be different.
